Recently released on the Anticon record label out of the US is Baths' debut album Cerulean. I'm not going to give it much of a review, but I will just let you know its an amazing experimental electronic release; check it out if you like chilled ambient beats and pieces..

This track from the album is the soundtrack of today (if you happen to be a resident in Adelaide).

I like this homemade video by DDRpwnerer because it's exactly what I'm seeing as I look out the window.

The 'Death Gate' EP which I received in the mail today excited me ever so much. It is the second solo EP from the Gaslamp Killer released on the Brainfeeder label, from a man who has an abundance of talent in the field of music production. The Death Gate EP (featuring collaborations with Gonjasufi, Computer Jay, and Mophono) is a great blend of music, typical of the Gaslamp Killer's style, fusing abstract electronica, along with elements of psychedelic hip hop and rock.

I think I got my copy of the limited 10" a little early as its not due to be released until the 12th of October but I'm not complaining.. the 10" contains roughly 15 minutes of material, and at this early stage of listening the collaboration with Computer Jay 'Shattering Inner Journeys' stands out to me the most.

Surfing Beatport today I happened across a new Flying Lotus EP which i had heard about a month or so ago but (for shame) had forgotten about while away.. Regardless the EP "Pattern+Grid World" dropped on the 20th of September (so Monday?) on the legendary Warp Records, and the EP is another typically great FlyLo genre bending, inspiring, creative release.
Seven tracks make up the EP; my personal favourite is "Jurassic Notion/M Theory"

This EP is pretty hot coming only 4 months after the release of FlyLo's third album "Cosmogramma", and coincidentally I stumbled across this cool video for one of the tracks on the album, "Mmmhmm", on youtube yesterday so fittingly I will include it in this post. The video is directed by Special Problems.

Soggy albatross

Spring is hiding in plantpots and ashtrays, planning its assault, and to egg it on I've made a soundtrack of multi-coloured, fast-moving things. A new, happily un-named style of electronic music has been sprouting lately, spearheaded by my beloved Border Community and respected weirdos like Caribou and Four Tet. It's a sound that takes great pleasure in sticking its fingers up at some of the orthodoxy that's accrued itself around music like old, old cheese, and pursuing something simultaneously luscious and anarchistic. This collection embraces the new sound, and blends it with a field of influences, from stellar English lads, Delphic, to the serious maestro of techno past and present, Carl Craig. Whether it works is up to you to decide, but if it's interesting enough to make you react in some strong way then I'll be happy. One last thing - it's made with headphones in mind rather than hi-fis/monitors/car systems.

It's taken me far too long to make a post about this man. I blame this on the fact that i enjoy his music too much. So much so that i struggle to put it to words. Each of his productions are so rich, so much happening but never sounding cluttered. Its allways infectiously funky and rhythmic even if takes a few listens to get your head around it. There's a timeless, surreal vibe in his music... like its from out of space, but set in the past. Whether it be his hip-hop/house or 2-step garage creations they are all total diamonds in their own right.

Based in new york but releasing through one of the most forward thinking labels in the UK, planet Mu. Falty Dl has 2 full length albums, 3 Ep's and a string of remixes to his name. He is truely one of the few artists that when i see his name pop up, i can bank on the track being total fire. I've bought everything available to date and won't hesitate to snap up whatever he turns his hand to next.

I'm going to share with you a handful of my absolute favourites and strongly urge anyone who digs them to buy his albums, they are pure magic.

This is only my third post on Exhibit A and already I'm finding myself writing a second post about a Hyperdub artist. No excuses though. Hyperdub is simply rad.

Recently the tracks I have been enjoying the most have been the ones that sit somewhere between house, garage and dubstep without being easily classified as any of them. Cooly G's 'Up In My Head' is a great example of this sound and has been on repeat for me for much of today.

For her second release on Kode 9's brilliant label, the South London producer provides a slice of niceness with interesting drum patterns that don't particularly conform to any standard and beautiful (even if slightly haunting) snippets of her own vocals.

As much as I would like to write a more in-depth review/analysis, I think my time would be much better spent listening to the track... again.

Infusing electronic dance music with colour and subtlety is an easy thing to completely botch, and when someone gets it right it's worth saying something about it. Luke Abbott is someone who's been getting it right for a long time now, through individualistic synth programming, good musical knowledge, and an impressionistic approach that conjures up landscapes teeming with mushrooms.

Luke's got a new album coming out this year following a pretty blinding E.P. that featured the track below. The combination of dancefloor intensity and unusual arpeggio patterns makes this one of my favourite tracks of the year, and it was rather exciting to hear HMC dropping it in his celebrated warm-up for Robert Hood at Cuckoo a couple of months back.

They pretty much run things in the dubstep world. Were some of (If not THE) cats to push the sound in the beginning. Still put out the most rich, soulful, sub-bass numbers you ever did hear and a few of their old records are now getting 320 web releases.

And while were on the topic..

Heres another released through the digital mystikz label. It's the b-side to the now infamous 'spongebob' track. Which was a catalyst for the mid-range heavy dubstep you hear now. But this one is all SPACE and BASS.

I had a massive passion for grime when I thought I was a gangsta when I was 16 and used to buss New Era caps at weird angles. Some of the producers that were making beats in the prime of grime (big up Skippy with the rhyme) are still doing some pretty decent stuff today with productions from the likes of MRK1 and Terror Danjah still hitting the spot. (And for the record I still buss New Eras at weird angles haha)

At only 19 years old, Kyle Hall has already been involved with Detroit's house scene for an impressive 8 years, having learnt to spin discs at the age of 11. By his early teens, Hall was DJing at clubs and on radio in his home-city and had his first release under his belt aged 16.

Kyle's productions were brought to my attention by his Kaychunk/You Know What I Feel release on boundary-pushing dubstep label Hyperdub. Left craving more after my first hit of Kyle Hall, I checked out many of his other releases and found a lot to like about his "kinda retarded and jazzy" approach to deep detroit house and techno.

Kyle Hall touches down in Adelaide on Saturday 27th November for a set at Sugar.
